What do you know about these ';white squirels?';?

I live in Missouri and my dad spotted a white squirel in my neighborhood and took pics of it...Now hes very curious on what it is... Do you know what this squirel could be? do you think its albino or what? anything will help! thanks :]What do you know about these ';white squirels?';?
Sightings of white squirrels are actually fairly common in your area. Marionville, MO, claims to be the ';Home of the White Squirrel,'; but so do Olney, IL, and Kenton, TN. The squirrels are indeed albino, but no one knows for sure why there are colonies of them in these three towns.

Here's an article about Marionville you might enjoy, and it's quite informative:

http://www.ruralmissouri.org/03pages/03D鈥?/a>

According to the above article, their eyes are red, but sometimes appear dark because of the way the light hits them. What do you know about these ';white squirels?';?
most likely albino or it is a genetic problem that has spread instead of dying out
Grad,

A 'white squirrel' is an albino squirrel. It comes from a recessive gene, like when you breed brother and sister animals.
It is probably an albino gray squirrel -

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im鈥?/a>

Is this what they look like?

If so - pretty cool but not unheard of. There are also populations which have black versions as well.

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im鈥?/a>
More than likely it's albino........

I live near an area that has BLACK squirrels. I'd often wondered what would happen if I trapped a few black squirrels %26amp; released them in an area with alot of white squirrels? What do you get if you crossed an Albino with a Melanistic squirrel?

How can I help heal my squirels paw?

Hey, My name is Jessie and i found 2 baby squirells about 3 days ago. We went to take them to a wildlife rehabilitator and I really wanted to keep them, so the lady told us waht to do and now me and my mom are raising them. They are about 5-6 weeks old, and both healthy females. Now, one of the squirells seem to have a broken paw and I need to know how to fix it soon before we let them go. So, Please reply with REASONABLE answers. not like, put it in a sling. Please, I need to know and if I cant get anything we will call the rehabilitator. Thanks!!How can I help heal my squirels paw?
You actually shouldn't keep the squirrels forever, just let the one heal up by wrapping its arm up with medical tape. Then you should probably let them out into the wild because if you keep them any longer odds of them being able to survive aren't that high. I know they may be cute but you aren't going to want to take care of them forever take them back the the wildlife rehabilitation center once they are healed. How can I help heal my squirels paw?
I would call the wildlife for advice as they will know best what to do.
call the rehabilitator
pray for him im sure god will heal him instead of all the cancer sufferers out there.

Get a fake owl. They frieghten away birds. How can i keep squirels and birds out of my tomatoes and peppers plants?
Hang bells on the plants or on the wooden stakes. Any kind of noise maker will do for the birds, but the squirels will be hard, they will chew through netting and are not easaly scared. Get a cat!!How can i keep squirels and birds out of my tomatoes and peppers plants?
Some light netting that completely covers/surrounds the plants.
chase em out with a broom

Mrs Nutt is over-run by squirels.....?

A woman in Northern Ireland says her home has been over-run by grey squirrels.

Oonagh Nutt, from Moira in County Down, says the animals first came into her garden from an adjoining park six years ago, but in the last 18 months they got too close for comfort.

';I thought it was lovely, I called one of them Hazel but then the next thing they'd got into the house,'; she said.

Mrs Nutt says the squirrels have caused serious damage: ';They chewed their way through my roof in several places, they tunnel through the cavity walls, they live under the floor boards, they go to the toilet in the attic.

    ';I have a small child in the house and regularly at night the scratching and chewing and moving about will wake him up.';

Mrs Nutt says she's spent thousands of pounds trying to tackle the problem.

';I've had pest control round putting poison down in the roof space and travel routes through the house. But then they died inside the cavity walls and the house is infested with flies. It's a nightmare.

    ';We've had squirrel catchers, traps, lights, sonar. Everything but the kitchen sink.';

Mrs Nutt is unhappy with the attitude of her local council to the pest problem.

    ';I rang Lisburn City Council three times and have been told in short to go away. They say they're not a pest so there's nothing they can do.';

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_irel鈥?/a>

What would be your solution to help Mrs Nutt? Sorry but lol @ the irony in her name!!Mrs Nutt is over-run by squirels.....?
lololol. i suggest she changes her name. Everyone knows Squirrels are attracted to nutts.

    She called one Hazel?? seriously?

PMSLMrs Nutt is over-run by squirels.....?
i would take my case to the local Ombudsman ... there is lack of care %26amp; performance by her council. she has an infestation %26amp; no matter what is 'infesting' - it is a problem that needs sorting. i think she would win %26amp; the Ombudsman would recommend that the council act.
My brother and sister in law have invested in an air rifle with telescopic sight. They are elimanting the blighters one by one and are winning the battle.

I would have some poison put down OUTSIDE. She could also borrow a dog or a ferret.
Send in R Steph, she has an amazing effect on small fluffy animals(eg wabbits), some times flying ones (eg pigeons) the occasional deer and general livestock (licensed to cull bulls) LOL

NB this list is not exhaustive....
She should get in touch with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, he will have a squirrel on a skewer for those that can come out for a daily shoot.
she should open a squirrel farm.
Faith is quite right cats will solve the problem,,,
Lol, well she only has herself to blame with a name like that!
    i'm just guessing...but aren't squirrels a kind of rodent?...i suggest Mrs.Nutt get a cat...

    xx
HA! At first I thought this was a post by one of my mother's students! (She's a teacher. But we live in America and her first name is not Oonagh).

That's crazy! I don't think it's the city council's problem though. I'd suggest that she gets a pellet rifle (like a BB gun) and shoot the little rascals, or put out some lovely DCon.

How can I keep the squirels from hiding their accorns in my mulch. It's driving me nuts (no pun intended).

They dig out my mulch and hide their stuff in there and I'm stuck fixing up what they messed it. It's getting on my last nerves. I mean, I think I clean up after the squirels more than I clean up after my kids. It's crazy. How can I keep the squirels from hiding their accorns in my mulch. It's driving me nuts (no pun intended).
A fence will not keep a squirrel away from your garden.

A big Labrador dog will keep them out but that would be even more trouble.

Well, At least you get free soil tilling from the squirrels. How can I keep the squirels from hiding their accorns in my mulch. It's driving me nuts (no pun intended).
You've just got to learn to live with them.

Or you can try to create an extra enticing mulchy area in some corner and put some food in that area. It might encourage them to use the other spot.
Sprinkle with pepper or red pepper. They don't like the hot smell. Won't look bad, cheap.Won't hurt the squirrels
    get a cat

or a wild animal urine from the feed store will deter them

Two baby squirels, what do i do with them?

I found two young baby squirels in my back yard and picked them up before My room mates cat could get them. I gave them food and water and put them in a cage, both are very calm however one is very tired looking at the other fusses to be let out. What's the best course of action? I do plan on releaseing both back into the wild. Two baby squirels, what do i do with them?
watch the debateTwo baby squirels, what do i do with them?
im not sure but i thought that squirrels were considered rodents and i thought it was illegal to release captured rodents back into the wild.
Well how old are they? Is one of them acting like its tired all the time? If so they really do need some medical care. Perhaps look in the phone book for a wildlife type place. They may be able to give you some tips on taking care of them or something. All in all if one is acting wierd I would think its a poison perhaps or something. Why I would look for some professional guidance.
I raised two flying squirrels when I was younger, so your in luck.

You need to put them somewhere safe, a cage might cut it, but you need to put a branch and pine bedding the bottom, squirrels like to burrow remember or they won't feel safe.

If you take a plastic bowl, cut a small hole in it (a safe hole, nothing that would cut them when they crawled in and out of it) and put the bowl rim down in the pine bedding, they will sleep in their and be very happy.

You need to go to the store and buy and tiny water bottle at a pet store that people use for hamsters, and get some bird seed, good quality if you can afford it, the more types of seeds it has the better, they need to learn how to crack the seeds open so that one day the can go back to living in the wild (if you don't keep them as pets.)

Also, if they are too young to eat the seeds, you can give them a milk substitute you buy at a farm supply and get a eye dropper and feed them.

You have to feed them a lot, or at least put the milk substitute in the tiny water bottle you bought from the store and keep it warm if possible.

But hand feeding them is better because it stimulates them and they'll be more friendly too.

Hold them in your palm, let them stand if they can, and just gently hold the eye dropper full of luke warm milk out to them, they will latch on and drink, its actually really cute to watch.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to message me at any time, I'll try to reply asap.

You can message me on myspace too, I'll get that quicker.

    Good luck!
    i don't know!
look in the phone book under veterinarians. Call one that has a 24-hour number, and ask them if someone could come pick them up. If they are released back into the wild, the mother will most likely reject them and they will be too little to survive on their own. Usually an animal control person of some sort will come pick them up and bring them to a shelter where they can be rehabilitated and taken care of.
Check out this site it will tell you everything yhttp://users.hal-pc.org/~jbsum/squirrel.鈥?/a> . i have raised many baby squirrels and have two right now. I could sit here and type all of what you need to know , but that seems like a waste of time when it is all already typed out on this site. It is very clear and organized and easy to understand and has any piece of information you need to know about squirrels whether you want to keep or release its all there check it out. Hope it helps.
just go put them in a safe place and leave a little food there so that they can continue on their way....dont keep them out of the wild for too long
First get to your closest pet store. Ask anyone there who might be knowlegable on these animals. You can raise them in your home by feeding them until they grow larger to release. You will have to build a cage or aquire one that will fit their size as they grow. They probally will be quite active and a bit nervous as they grow but they will grow fast so that you can release them in a short period of time. They will be a bit nervous and somewhat wild while you raise them but you will know when the time is right to release them outside. They should quickly adjust to the outside enviorment without a problem.
Make sure that they are healthy and hydrated.

You can keep them until they are nursed back to health but I strongly suggest returning them to the wild.

It is possible to keep them, but this usually proves to be fatal to them because they are wild animals.
take them to a quiet park or someplace in the woods with lots of other squirrels. leave some nuts with them
Take them to the nearest wildlife preserve.

I know you're trying to do the best for them, but odds are good you're only hurting them.

Go to google maps, enter your zipcode and search wildlife preserves.

EDIT: Not wildlife preserve, wildlife rescue center.

My friend is afraid of squirels...?

    yea. alittle bit.

lol. i have a friend that reminds me of squirrels.

    Do squirels lay eggs?

my friend said they are birds i thought they were mammalsDo squirels lay eggs?
Of course they lay eggs. Just like dolphins and elephants.Do squirels lay eggs?
you are thinking of the flying squirrels. they are a bird with wings that are attached to their feet and have small feathers that resemble fur. as well as what looks like a fuzzy tail due to the down type feathers. since their wings are attached to their feet it is hard to fly in any direction but straight so they use their tail like a rutter to guide them they look alot like squirrels and are they only bird to have a beak completely covered with feathers. people used to think they were bats but they tested their dna and discovered they are a bird which is closely related to the penguin and the cuckoo.

they believe that this is the ancestor to many mammals however and possible the closest link from birds and mammals. this animal gave rise to the duck billed platypus as well as the common squirrel.

the flying squirrel is also the only animal that can eat the rare goo-goo berry from mars as well as withstand extremely high temperatures up to 2,000 Celsius because of this scientists believe that this animal came in on the meteor that killed the dinosaurs.
can i have some of the gear your mate was smoking when he walked across the swimming pool the other night, and said squirrels are tweakies, powerfully stuff, does he also breast feed his pet ferret, cackleburries are the sole prerogative of the feathered variety of tweakies, turtles etc lay eggs with no shells, next news rabbits ell be laying eggs, and playing pool!
Yes, they lay eggs, but not in the traditional sense: squirrels, like most Aves, spit them out of their esophagal lining and hold them in their cheeks like they would nuts. Hence their large, nut-carrying cheeks. Most believe they are for carrying nuts alone!
the only mamal that lays eggs is the duckbilled platypus
ask your friend where is squirrels wings ???

    THEY DONT LAY EGGS

    a video for your friend

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfQZk8V1p鈥?/a>
They absolutely do not because they are mammals. The only mammals that lay eggs are monotremes, which consist of the platypus and four species of echidna.
    LoL are you serious ??

well the answer is NO because squirrels are Mammals so that means that they give birth like humans and dogs and cats only birds and some reptiles and some fish lay Eggs !
    No ! lol

Of course they don't, they're mammals.

    Hi there.

Squirrels do not lay eggs. You are correct, they are mammals. They, therefore, give birth.

    Hope I helped :)
no they give live birth. usually to about 5 or 6 i don't know what their babies are called though.
No squirrels are mammals you are right. only birds and reptiles lay eggs.
    You spelled squirrels wrong.
they are mammals so they don't lay eggs.

the only flying mammal is the bat (or the flying squirrel if that counts)
Of course they're not birds! They are mammals and no, they don't lay eggs, they give birth to live young.
umm. yeah they do and guess what wen they hatch baby dinos come out!! sorry i didnt mean to be mean but thats obviously sircasm.

no there weren't any squirrels. In that scene there were goose that laid golden eggs.
In the 1970s film, no. In the book, yes, which is one of the reasons why I prefer the latest version-i.e. it sticks to the plot of the book more.
no.....but there are geese that lay golden eggs on the original : )
Willy Wonka? No there are Geese that lay golden eggs and Veruca Salt wanted one...itturned out she was a bad egg.
In the book - yes, The film - no.
They were in the original book but replaced by golden geese in the 1971 film.
no there was geese before and the spoilt one wanted a golden egg from the geese but i think the squirrels and their nuts are a good input ot the film.

    what should i do?

will it harm her?My puppy at a squirels tail!?!? help?!?
I would call the vet and see.My puppy at a squirels tail!?!? help?!?
It is not a good thing that she hasn't had her shots. At the same time, dogs eat dead things all the time. She'll probably be fine. I believe that rabies is transmitted through saliva, so eating a tail wouldn't pass it on to her. She could get the equivalent of dog food poisoning. Small dogs and puppies dehydrate very quickly so if she is vomiting a lot you need to go to the vet. Otherwise, just call and see what the vet has to say about the risks of her having eaten it.
I've never heard of this happening. Get her the rabies shot ASAP. I would call your vet, maybe even an animal hospital to see if it could harm her. i wouldn't think she would get rabies unless the squirrel bit her but I'm not sure, I've never heard of a situation like this.

However, once my friend and I saw a dead squirrel lying in the middle of the road. It was a disturbing scene. Later on we thought we saw a chestnut with it and made up a story about the squirrel being so hungry and stealing it. It has probably been a year now so I don't really remember what the story was but whenever we see a squirrel we recall it as 'that squirrel thief'.... I know it sounds weird (we're the kind of people who don't need alcohol to get drunk. All we need is a little being bored, Dairy Queens dipped cone in a cup and plenty of water) but hey we were 15 then and now 16. A lot can change in a year!
    thats really stupid
what would I do that fer, to eat??
no but in the past few weeks I've had a couple of them stalking me--doesn't really bother me though--I have an exceptionally good firewall

Make sure to check out your local laws regarding flying squirrels. I don't know where you're from, but it is illegal to own them in some states in the united states and in some others you have to have a special permit. I know I live in Indiana and it is illegal to own them here. Most of the time you have to check out breeders to find them.
online u can order them teehee i know that is weird
there is a ware house just out side of hamliton ohio buy three and get three free..they have assorted colors and sexes....they are all kind of them squirrels .. they hatch them out weekly and haul most of them to different location in large semi trucks .. they cost a dollar a peace and that cheaper than any where else...the place is call (Bill Flying squirrels) his moto if they dont fly you don.t buy.....

  • Do squirels remember where they hide their nuts?

No, that's why they write down all the buried nuts locations.

Whilst they're very good at writing, sadly they cannot read, so the nuts get lost.

Not only can squirrels not read their own handwriting, but no other animals can either so they cannot help. Voles would if they could, but squirrels writing looks like knitting to them.Do squirels remember where they hide their nuts?

i like squirrels....but not for a flavour of crisps.

http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.htm…Do you like squirels and pigeons?
I love the real wild squirrels, not the fat and pathetic stupid ones that live inside of towns. A real squirrel never stays in the same place for too long of a time, and they are very, very smart. I hunt Doves, and I believe that they are a relvative of the pigeon, but no not really, I do not like them.Do you like squirels and pigeons?
    I love both.

There were loads of squirrels where i used to live. I once found one (as big as a cat) eating a discarded big mac in a bin.

The other day i was eating a sandwich and a pigeon was watching me, waiting for crumbs, and another pigeons appeared behind it. It was all puffed out and cooing. Then it tried to jump on the first pigeon and have sex with it! Made me laugh for ages.
My yard has squirrels, chipmunks, pigeons, bats, opossum, snakes, mice, woodpeckers, cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, and other birds.

I view pigeons as flying rats and I wish I could train cats to attack them.
I don't care for squirels they don't bother me, I don't bother them. lol

Where did all the red squirels go?

Most of the ones that are left live in the north of Scotland. They were driven out by the grey ones. There's an analogy in there somewhere.Where did all the red squirels go?
They were beaten up by the grey squirrels and now only survive up in Scotland (not even gret squirrels want to live in Scotland) and some Islands like Isle of Wight and Brownsea Island, but when the Grey's get their Yaghting licenses it'll be all over.Where did all the red squirels go?
We've still got them in Ashington on the river Wansbeck and Kielder Forrest will be their last stand in England.

the grey ones are taking over their habitat, and food resources as they are better competitors
They all came up here to Scotland, they were fed up with the Grey Squirrels down in England........... No honestly there is an abundance of Red Squirrels up here in Scotlands Cairngorms
Up here! Their stronghold is in Scotland but I believe you still have a few down there.
Invaders from the USA. You were warned, but you still think they're your cousins.
many are being protected in areas .
in poland, there are no gray squirrels- only red! so where did all the gray ones go?
Mostly driven out by greys, in the UK
There are some on the Isle of Wight. No greys here!

What would you do if squirels started stealing your hair while you slept...?

they stare in the windows and menace me..always staring at me..saying things about me..looking at me while i eat at the table..sparpening pencils with their little teeth taking notes..i know they are..my hair is getting thinner and the magic squirels come into our trailer park and they steal the hair from my head..what else would explain the hair lossWhat would you do if squirels started stealing your hair while you slept...?
maybe it's the stress from worrying about the squirrels. I can totally relate, those evil bastardsWhat would you do if squirels started stealing your hair while you slept...?
It depends on what part of my body it was stealin the hair from, and part other than my head I'd let it do.
Did you try talking to them about it?
hahahaha when i start going bald ill let you know if i see any squirrels :] !!!

    yeah??!?!
Talk to your neighborhood watch. I also highly recommend getting your fairy Godfather to see if he can talk to some ';guys'; about taking care of the problem. You might owe the Godfather a favor, but c'mon. the risks outweigh the hairloss.
i'm jealous I mean why would they want your hair and not mine :(

    (lol)
Man, I have the same problem! Good to know there's someone else out there...... lol
I would set my hair on fire, that would teach them - well, maybe not, but maybe they would stop taunting you when they saw how crazy you are - or well WERE (after you set your hair on fire)
and thats why i lock my windows.
    those damn squirrels
I would lace my hair with sedatives, capture the squirrels, brainwash them, and turn them into my evil squirrel army of the night. Then I will make some popcorn, because that will surely take time and I will need a snack.
    I would scream.
    They can have the hair.
oh no not ';sqa whirls?'; lions tigers and squirrels OH MY

actually i feed the squirrels and i have a normal that comes back every year and he eats out of my hand i have a pic hanging on my office wall of him eating a pb and j sandwich out of my hand on my front porch
you too. damn those squirels. .........oh no! they're coming!
Knit them little squirrel sweaters. More than likely they're cold and just want something warm to wear. :)
I'd start stealing their nuts while they sleep and taunt them with freshly baked pies!
actually you are correct in your suspicions .... but what you don't know is that they are stealing your hair to give to the Donald Trump. So its for a good cause.
thanks that just made my day =)

  • With all the squirels in the world, why don't you see squirel poop all over the street?

Squirrels spend very little time in the street, thus you don't find their poop there very often. If your are REALLY curious about squirrel poop try looking around the base of large trees in your area like oaks, maples and even pines.

A recent study by a university found that ';urban'; squirrels actually look both ways before crossing the street. Rather interesting!

The name squirrel comes from the Greek -- it means, ';he who sits in the shadow of his tail.';With all the squirels in the world, why don't you see squirel poop all over the street?
because like cats they bury itWith all the squirels in the world, why don't you see squirel poop all over the street?
Squirrels don't spend time on the roads. They run across so they don't get run over. So they don't have time to poop on the road because there always up trees or in the grass and not in parking lots or on roads.
You do, but you don't recognize it.

Squirrels don't leave large droppings, and they don't smell as strongly as larger animals leavings. Unless you know what you're looking for, a typical squirel poop would just look like a small wad of dirt or plant matter.
Look at the bottom of your shoe...
A lot of the answers are correct, squirrel poop just looks like dark sand or grains of dirt. The other part of the answer is RAIN. Scat that small washes away easily, especially on asphalt.
I am sure that squirrels do it in the trees. I guess that's why Rocky flew around all of the time.
Because they don't poop in the streets. Birds do that though. Don't park your car under a tree!
because they stay in grassy areas?
Interesting. Maybe they have a special place to do it. Maybe they are particularly cleanly and bury it instead of just dumping it. Or maybe there is squirrel poop there. but you just don't see it. It might be soft and runny rather than firm, and run right into the grass within a short space of time. Or maybe some of those acorns you see lying around are really....
Wow I have never thought about that.. interesting.. and funny
    lol
    Hahahaha

    Squirrels must be very tidy.
awesome question..but Ive got the answer. They dont poop just anywhere, they usually poop while in the tree and it is so small that you never see it.
Squirel lives in forest woody areas typically areas with a-corn thats where their most found. They dont just poop and appear on streets if thats what your asking for, likewise, you dont see squirel pooh's everywhere in the woods , besides how could i tell a squirels poop form a dogs poop if i stepped on it? Probably the size right, so there its hard to see squirels poop even if they were scattered over the streets!
squirrel poop is about the ssame size as a large mouse otr rat and he poops mostly in grassy and treed area so if you're not looking for it you will not notice it.
if your poop was as big n as hard as an acorn would you want to drop it from a tree.

    Relocating squirels?

    squirrels in the atticRelocating squirels?
Get a havahart trap and bait it with peanut butter or apple pieces or acorns. Check it daily or when you hear a noise up there. Put the trap in a brown paper bag to quiet the squirrel and then drive it to a place more than three miles away from your home. Tip the trap over and the squirrel is relocated.

Do it soon because the squirrels in the attic can make a horrible mess and rip up everything.

When you have the attic empty seal up the openings they came in through.Relocating squirels?
use live traps baited with salted peanuts(in the shell). Once you catch them bring them to a wooded area like a conservation area or park etc. Once you've removed them get up in the attic and put wire mesh over any air vents to keep any more from getting in.
Yep. you can move them from the attic to the stove!Yummm, fricasseed squirrel, that's mighty fine cookin'
purchase a have-a-heart trap, bait it and wait...then take FAR away and release
Rich Z is not kidding when he said he did alot. Last year I relocated over two dozen and every day there were still more. I live on an island and relocated them to a conservation park on the mainland. I am sure they were not swimming back daily over four miles! You have some good answers here. Be sure to fix it where they cannot get back in. They destroyed most of my Christmas decorations in my attic. They ate through the cedar siding to get in!!! I guess I have a love/hate relationship with them. They are cute but evil. Good luck.

    Are Squirels Pests?

I am fed up with squirels destroying all my bird feeders, I have recently purchased metal ones, but they chewed all the plastic covers %26amp; perches from the seed entrences. I feed the squrrels nuts but they bury most of them and start destroying new plants.

I can tolerate them, but they are a nuicense.

I live close to a wood and in some years I get overrun with the critters, so I have resoted to a cull. Are Squirels Pests?
They are only pest if you don't have a recipe for them.

    Recipe:

Skin and clean the squirrel, carefully washing it off after tht process.

Cut it into pieces, its little legs, pop its head off, and cut the back across at the middle.

You can either dip them in egg and flour them, or just flour then.

    Brown the little buggers

After browning, add one can of cream of chicken soup, about 1/4 cup of water, and simmer for about 45 minutes.

Make up some rice or mashed potatoes, whatever veggie you want, and chow down. Are Squirels Pests?
easer to make into a stew out of them in the crock pot

A pest is any animal, weed, disease that interferes with your gardening or landscape efforts. Yes, mammals such as squirrels are indeed a pest. They are a home pest when they get inside causing untold damage.

Now how smart are you for inviting these creatures into your yard and then calling them pests?
The squirrels are after the bird seed but you can easily keep them from eating it, buy the bird seed that has been treated with hot pepper. The birds do not taste the pepper, it will not hurt them, but the squirrels hate it and will quickly leave your feeders alone.
I had squirrels on my feeder too. Then I greased the pole which stopped them till they figured how to jump from a nearby tree. Now I add hot pepper to the feeder (buy it in bulk at a warehouse club store) and they dont much care for the feed. the birds apparently do not care how hot the seed is.
yes and they eat wiring in walls attices and even cars we cut back ftrees so jumping would be making them silly in the head[saw that one] they even put a hurting on our chickens food [now a controled product] have a hearts catch them then what I took them to school to eat out of the dumpster, have a pitcher of 3 waiting on top of my van to go home, its a no win story don,t feed just like it says at state parks
Are your feeders standing on poles? If so, wrap the pole with metal for at least 1 foot. It will keep them from being able to climb up.

If they are hanging, use wire. They won't be able to grip, and will fall off.

Make sure the feeders are away from any overhanging trees, as squirrels can and will jump a considerable distance.

There are a number of good squirrel recipes out there. Good hunting
I use fresh jalapenos that I grow to keep them off my vegetable plants and berries. I just break a couple open and shake it around the area. They don鈥檛 need to get much on their paws to get the message. I leave the broken pieces around. They stay away.

But they do get fed at the feeders and I grow several seed plants for wildlife. So my rule is just to keep them off the plants that I want to eat myself.

When they are scared their natural instinct is to go home, since they were probably headed away from home when you saw them, they dart back to what they think is safety. They are not the smartest creatures. It freaks me out when they do that too!Why do squirels?
Maybe the squirrel is crazy or something scared it at that area so they ran back into the street. I was told never to get near squirrel because there can be something wrong with it. Plus my mom got attacked by one so i guess that's why, It could be suicidal
    They are nuts.
Its just like that commercial that came out. Then when the car swerves they meet up and do a little handshake and laugh at us!
    they are squirrels!!
    because they get freaked out by these giant roaring machines around them, and just think, ';run away! run away!';

I had a squirrel do this to me last summer, and I stopped the car to avoid him - then he turned back and I heard this little ';thud'; as he ran headfirst into the side of my tire. Then he scrambled up a tree - I hope he has some aspirin up there! ;)
    loose nuts!
Because, they remember they left their wallet at home =^.^=
    cats too...

its the craziest thing, they try to run back to where they know.....

....where's safe.... or so THEY think...!
Because they don't understand, the way humans do, that cars will kill them. Much like deer and possum..the concept is not available to them.

Rubber snakes in the garden works well, the type you can purchase at a dollar store will do in a pinch. What do with squirels detroying our roof?

the squirels are damaging our roof of the house what can we do to prevent this from happeningWhat do with squirels detroying our roof?
Hav-a-heart will easily trap them unharmed. They are looking to make nests now. If you think they can tear up a roof, wait until you see what the can do to the insulation. Mine caused considerable damage.

If I hadn't just built a pair of dormers in the front of the house and had the knee walls open,I wouldn't have notice the holes they punched in everything. I couldn't understand why my house was suddenly so drafty. When I saw what they did, I knew. Check with you local wildlife officers, you may not be able to relocate them without danger of being arrested. Check you local laws. They did pull off some of peak of the roof shingles trying to get in. The found a loose board in the eaves. Remember if you get soft hearted, they carry ticks, fleas and virus that can be very dangerous to your health. Like the first guy says they are good eating. Me? In my old age I just don't have the stomach to kill anything. Maybe because I don't have much time left myself? Contact a hunter in your area he wil be glad to take them off your hands. Or take out a frying pan and get revenge. What do with squirels detroying our roof?
Trim the tree branches so they don't meet your roof. Cover your gutters with some chicken wire so they're less attractive to their feet maybe? I think if the squirrels are able to tear up your roof - your shingles are probably in bad shape anyway and you need your roof replaced. But don't poison them - they'll keep coming and you'll still have a problem even after your poison accidentally ends up in the mouth of the neighbor's dog who is just so lucky enough to catch a slow dying squirrel.
I can send you a couple good recipes.

    Why are red squirels endangered?

    any websites on red squirels

did grey squirels really drive them out?

why did they drive them out?Why are red squirels endangered?
They are endangered because they can't compete with the more adaptable gray squirrel which was brought over from North America. In Finland and Russia, red squirrel are trapped for their fur. They are also endangered because their habitats are being destroyed. The only way to keep the red squirrel population up is to lower the gray squirrel's population.

Do squirels remember where they place their nuts?

they remember most of the time, and those they forget become nut bearing trees, which is good for the future squirrel generationsDo squirels remember where they place their nuts?
Only the males.Do squirels remember where they place their nuts?
The do remember many, however they also forget many. Also a if something happens to the squirrel such as death then their entire stash will stay in the ground.

It is interesting how squirrel bury the acorns/nuts are the perfect depth for them to sprout. It has been proven that they actually bury different kinds of acorns at different depths.

They also drop many acorns and nuts while carrying them through trees, this too helps to spread the trees seedlings
Yes and no. I spent a week camping recently and, as I'm a naturalist through and through, watched birds and squirrels both caching food and retrieving it. Squirrels seemed to keep the nuts fairly close to the tree in this case, and spent a fair amount of time looking for the nuts they knew were there at one time. Eventually they found them and had a quick feast. Occasionally the squirrel forgets, or gets eaten, and new trees grow, or sometimes another animal finds it first. It was great entertainment for me while my husband slept and I drank my coffee!
lol, this is too easy...of course, they use them as food during the months that fruits and nuts don't grow. The ones they don't eat(or forget about!) grow into trees and feed the next generation of squirrels who want to *ahem* get a nut!
yes they do. i raised and released an abandoned one, he was smart about his food
They mark the stash with scent so they can find it later if they forget.
yes, their brain has a special memory area just for their food storage.

How to keep squirels from digging up my garden?

If you put some used cat litter around the base of the plants, it will deter the squirrels from digging there. They will smell the litter and think a cat is nearby waiting to pounce on them! How to keep squirels from digging up my garden?
Chicken wire is good but if you have a large garden it is a bit impractical unless the problem is really big. Just put it on the top of the ground that you have planted and they will not want to dig. You may need a finer net wire but eventually they will get the idea. Also if you mix up a solution of cayenne, alcohol and water and spray the area with it, it should help to keep them from wanting to come in too.How to keep squirels from digging up my garden?
you might try putting dried corn seeds and nuts a ways away from your garden and always make sure they have plenty, they are just hungry and looking for food!
As I mentioned to another person not too long ago, buy a bobble head owl statue, you can pick these up at a local hardware store or wal-mart, and mount it on a pole or in a tree near your garden. they will be gone.

Your neighbor is annoying, he shouldn't be feeding pests and wild animals in general. That's like me leaving food out for the coyotes. Not to mention raw peanuts is terrible for squirrels.

Talk to your neighbor about this. Rotten food is certainly never healthy but most dogs can tolerate an amazing amount of it, or at least better than humans. Peanuts are not nuts and so although they are not poisonous it is linked with certain health issues when fed to dogs such as gall bladder disease. My neighbor puts out peanuts for squirels. Squirrels have a great distaste for cayenne peppers. The smell of it irritates them very much and they usually stay away after you coat the area with a mixture of hot pepper sauce %26amp; water.

If possible, you should put some outside near where they enter your attic and on the floor of the attic

Penguins would win hands down. Penguins are extremely intelligent and crafty.
Personally I see the Squirrels enslaving the Chihuahua's and using them as mounts. With squirrels riding the Chihuahuas into battle they should win handily.
    I'm not really to sure about that one. The penguins seem like they'd have a good chance. Its funny how you spelt ';chiwawas';
Well the dog(!) would sit there and yap but be too scared for any real fight, so he's out. Then the squirrel would go for the penguins nuts, so to get away the penguin would slide on his belly all over the ice until the squirrel gets frostbite on his feet, then the penguin pecks around the ice so he goes into the water, the ice that his feet are frozen to capsises and fills the hole back up so he drowns-therefore the penguin wins.
penguins for sure i don't care were they are its going to be those polopenguins i have proof its a game it shows u how destructive penguins are in this game play it

Where do squirels sleep and where do they go in the winter?

Squirrel is the common name for rodents of the family Sciuridae (from Greek skia ';shadow'; and oura ';tail'; i.e. ';tail that casts a shadow';). In everyday speech in the English-speaking world it usually refers to members of the genera Sciurus and Tamiasciurus. These typical members of the family are tree squirrels with large bushy tails, and are indigenous to Europe, Asia and the Americas. Similar genera are found in Africa. However, the Sciuridae also include flying squirrels, and ground squirrels such as the chipmunks, prairie dogs, and woodchucks. The unrelated family Anomaluridae also have ';squirrel'; in their common name, though they are usually referred to as ';scaly-tailed flying squirrels';. The word squirrel comes from the Old French esqurial, which itself comes from the Vulgar Latin word scuriolus (squirrel).

This link has quite a bit of info on squirrels. I used to live in Wisconsin and squirrels generally slept in trees or holes in different things. They don't go anywhere for winter. We would watch them run around through the snow and our dogs used to love to chase them in the snow.Where do squirels sleep and where do they go in the winter?

How do squirels fine their fall nuts?

I could give you a really naughty answer to this...but I won't. Instead, I will just say that they sometimes can smell them, they sometimes simply remember where they hid them. But not always. LOT'S of nuts and goodies end up lost and buried until they eventually turn into a small tree. My neighbor has a black walnut tree in the back which hangs over my yard. I can't tell you how many little seedlings I have popping up in the front lawn in the spring. The squirrels bury them, and either forget where they went or they are under too much snow for them to forage them back out of there. On the other hand, I personally have an apple tree out back, and it is an absolute hoot to watch these little squirrels trying to carry an apple bigger than their head across the road to store it under the neighbors front porch for the winter. We have apple cores laying around in the snow in January. They never seem to forget where they hid the apples!!How do squirels fine their fall nuts?

It's called the squirrel game of chicken...who knows? Maybe they are trained and paid by bodyshops and tow truck drivers to make you drive into the ditch...just a theory.
They are teaching the opossums what to do so later the squirrel and its buddy's can sit in a tree and get a good laugh.
they want u to test ur brakes
They probably do it at other times, but no one notices.

Squirrels can be seen on the road because some people spill leftover food like bread crumbs, peanuts, sunflower seed, or walnut, etc.

How do you keep squirels from getting into my bird feeders? PLEASE HELP!?

I have put up feeders for the squirels and they keep comming to my bird feeders to eat up all the food. I don't mind them eating too, but they have become little piglets! They eat untill all the bird feed is gone waisting alot of it on the ground. I have even put out the sunflower seeds that they like and they still come back for my bird feeders. How do you keep squirels from getting into my bird feeders? PLEASE HELP!?
bird's taste buds are not made the same as a mammal's taste buds . As such, a bird cannot taste the hotness of capsiacin which gives the heat to hot pepper such as cayenne and Jalapeno. Squirrels , however are susceptible to this hotness and will learn to avoid your feeder if you spike the food with cayenne powder or dried crushed hot pepper which can be found in the spice section of most supermarkets.

If you have a ';Dollar Store'; in your area , these crushed peppers can usually be bought relatively cheaply. Just get several jars and mix it thoroughly into the next batch of food being put into the feeder--The hotter the better. After a few applications you should see a decided decrease in the squirrel pilferage. How do you keep squirels from getting into my bird feeders? PLEASE HELP!?
Try buying pepper coated seeds or grind some hot peppers up to a juice and mix it up with the food...Rodents are known for not eating spicy food, and it has also been proven that hot and spicy chilis prevent salmonella in birds.
A .22 rifle works real good.
How are your feeders? Attached to a pole off the ground or to a tree or how? I remember when I was younger my grandpa hated having squirrels eat the bird seed, so he placed the bird feeders on top of a 5ft. metal pole. He then placed a round piece of wood, about the same size as a frisbee, on top of the pole and the feeder on top of that. It was far enough from trees so squirrels couldnt jump to it and when they were able to climb the pole they werent able to get around the wood piece. It was effective if your handy. I didnt look but Im sure they sell feeders like this also. Depending on where you have your feeders this may not help much, but I thought Id suggest anyways. Good luck!
One thing I saw on television that works is fix a Slinky toy right under the bird feeder. The pole runs through it. They can only climb the Slinky part way before it dumps them on the ground again. Quite funny to watch.
They are tricky, aren't they? I'm glad you're feedin them, too. They are only trying to provide for themselves and their families. :) They make squirrel proof feeders--here's a page of them you can order from Amazon:

Can a dog that chases squirels get along w/my cats?

We just rescued a Doberman and he seems to be getting along with my cats, as long as they dont run for him. We keep a very close eye on him when the cats are out and he leaves them alone, like I said until they run away then you can see him thinking...can I chase them??? As for the squirels outside...that's another story. I think Buddy thinks his only job in life is to rid the backyard of squirels. Squirrels are persistent, you may have to just surround the whole plant with chicken wire.
spray them with soap or hot pepper juice just wash be fore you eat ok

How do I keep squirels and birds out of the garden?

I've had good results with a chicken wire fence for keeping the squirrels out, if they climb it, bend the top over (and out toward the outside of the garden) at a 45 degree angle so they get stuck under it and can't climb in. I dug down about 6 inches before installing the wire to be sure there was no chance of crawling under. This has also solved my rabbit and groundhog problem. Also, laying chicken wire on the ground around plants sometimes works, some squirrels won't walk/dig if they have to cross chicken wire. That has worked best for my flower bulbs which they seem to think I buy for them to snack on. If you don't mind the smell and you keep them a safe distance from edible plants moth balls can be a deterent. They will dissolve after a while. (I'll be honest, that was my least favorite attempt). For birds I've used aluminum pie plates tied on strings strung around the garden. Anything that might scare them you could try. It helps to change it every so often so they don't get too comfortable and realize it's not going to hurt them. I'm putting a few links in the sources box from a company I've ordered from with good results as well. Good luck! How do I keep squirels and birds out of the garden?
Colorful metalic ribbon is suppose to deter them, its sold in all garden centers. You can add a netting ';canopy'; over the garden too as long as its easy for you to get in %26amp; out. Having a cat is helpful but only if it will stay in your garden area. How do I keep squirels and birds out of the garden?
u really cant unless u know how to project a forcefield....
You can try to place feeders away from the garden, not to far away though. We used colorful pinwheels, that scared the away when the wind blew. Wind chimes could work too. Good Luck
    Kindly ask them to leave.
Build a conservatory over your whole garden, it is the only way.

Or try asking them nicely ???
Chili powder or any other hot spice!

I have a shade garden that includes a large walnut tree. I could write a book on squirrels.

Most are looking for food, or want to bury some. Chili powder isn't a pleasant thing to get up the nose. However you must re-treat after each rain. After a while you won't need to use a much, squirrels will move on to the next yard, only occasional checking on yours to see if it's still peppered.

Birds are a bit harder. Plastic snakes, things that move in the wind, lack of place to perch are some of the more common tricks.

  • Will my 760 crossman air rifle kill Squirels if i use the pointed pellets?

I just got this air rifle to shoot squirels and small game...will it work? Will my 760 crossman air rifle kill Squirels if i use the pointed pellets?
At close range (10-15 yards or less), with head shots or shots to vital organs it should have enough energy to kill squirrels, pigeons and other birds, and mice/rats. It would be borderline for rabbits and too weak for jackrabbits. If you decide to use this air-gun to hunt with make sure you use appropriate ammunition such as domed or pointed pellets to get maximum penetration and improve your odds of killing cleanly. Personally I'd recommend something a little more powerful for hunting, such as a Crosman 2100 or a Crosman Phantom 1000X, but if you don't have the money for one of those or simply want to use what you have, you should have the answer to the question you asked. However keep reading because there are some legal issues you need to consider.

With all that said, you need to check the Department of Natural Resources for your state before you go squirrel/small game hunting. In many states squirrels and rabbits (and some other small game species) generally require a hunting license to kill. Additionally some states, like Texas, prohibit the use of air-guns to hunt small game animals. In addition, you need to make sure it is legal to discharge an air-gun where you were thinking of hunting. Many cities/towns/villages have ordinances against discharging firearms and/or air-guns inside their limits. You can find out if it is legal to fire an air-gun in your neighborhood by asking your local police or sheriff's department.

With all that said, shoot safely and happy hunting. Will my 760 crossman air rifle kill Squirels if i use the pointed pellets?
IMO the Crosman 760 is not powerful enough to hunt small game.

    ME(Muzzle Energy)

    625fps with 5.1gr BB = 4.42fpe

Pellets are slightly more efficient, so you would pick up a little, but not enough.

    550fps - 6.9gr pellet = 4.64fpe %26gt;estimate

With a perfect head shot you can take a pigeon or starling(3.0fpe) - sparrow or mouse(2.0fpe)

With the right pellets you would still have slightly over 3.0fpe at 20 yards.

IMO you need around 6.0fpe at impact for a clean humane kill on small game(rabbit, squirrel).

You could hunt small game at close range with BB/Pellet guns such as the Crosman 2100 and Daisy 880.

Much better would be the Crosman, break barrel guns in the $100 range(Quest, Storm XT, Phantom)

    %26gt;%26gt;Pointed pellets%26lt;%26lt;

The domed pellets work best for hunting.

The Crosman Premier Domed Light is a good pellet for a reasonable price.

Monkey nut shells shouldn't pose too much of a problem for a dogs stomach but hazelnut, walnut, pecan etc will tear your dogs stomach or gut as these cannot be digested! You could end up with a very sick dog if he keeps eating them! Crack a hazelnut yourself and feel the edges of the cracked shell - sharp eh? Imagine that passing through your lads intestines and bowel - if it gets that far without tearing his stomach? I know you can't stop people from feeding the squirrels so walk your dog another way, well away from the squirrel food! A few nuts won't hurt him but the cracked shells certainly can!

It's cheaper and less time-consuming than poison, shotguns, traps, dogs, repellents, and yelling ';git!'; every time you see them.

find some natural poison and spray ur house have a trap with food outside
if nobody is there, pour a bottle of ammonium into a pan and put it in the attic, that will keep everything away, but only if nobody is living there, it could cause neurological problems if exposed to humans for a long period of time. once they are gone, seal up their entrance. you do not want to poison, because if you do and they decompose in the attic (or worse in the wall) you will have a really nasty mes to clean up.
Get yourself a live trap and keep busy.
    Dog food soaked in antifreeze.
are you sure the varmint isn't two legged? if you live in an area where snakes live , i would be plugging up some holes.
It is hard to keep a unlived in house up. A 22 long rifle is the best bet along with traps for when you are not there. The poison might mean that they go back into what ever part of the house and die. Can you say stink. Call the animal control for more ideas.
traps are the most humane way, you can always use poison but I would n't.
well if you find your .357 magnum to be too loud try a .410 ga.SS
I'd recommend not killing them but calling animal control or a service that will get them safely out. After all, it was their home before the house was ever built.

Squirels and chipmunks are digging big holes in my backyard lawn. Anybody know why and how I can stop them?

Simple, there is squirrel repellent at any hardware store. It contains fox urine and such which gives the squirrels the scent that there is a predator in the area and they will stay away from wherever you spray it. The stuff costs around 20 dollars for a normal spray bottle but it definitely works.

For chipmunks, there are pellets you can put around to repel them also. There is also a way to get rid of chipmunks where you kill them but I am all about that being a last resort so you will have to email me for that trick if its really necessary.Squirels and chipmunks are digging big holes in my backyard lawn. get a cat or dog and boost it up there
squirels are basically godly creatures. they wont harm you.but if you insist in sending them out place the nest somewhere else when they are not there.
Buy a flame thrower and see ow long the last.

How can I keep squirels out of my flower beds?

I wouldn't waste too much time with the home remedies or sprays, they really don't work very well for rodents such as squirrels.

The only deterrent that does seem to work well is a motion activated water sprinkler. You can find these by searching for ';squirrel sprinkler'; on Yahoo or Google.

Other than that, the best option would probably be to eliminate the critters all together. Try a Havahart brand trap sized for squirrels. They seem to work the best.

If you trap them, make sure to release them several miles away, or they will find their way back. Squirrels are very territorial.

Any kind of netting around your plants will keep out the birds, but squirrels (tree rats) are more curious and will eat thru anything but metal. Fortunately, hot pepper sprays will turn them off.

Mix about a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Mix that into a clean quart spray bottle with water and spray it on your plants. Reapply after any heavy rain, or every 10 days or so. The good news is that it will also help control the insects on your plants. Just be sure to wash the fruit well before eating.
Hang C.D.'s around in the garden. They last longer than tin pie pans.
Take chicken wire and wood and make a box around them that's what I do to my garden items that the little critters love.

No, but insect repellers are worthless.
I have not had anyone talk about how great they are, so I doubt they are effective, know what I mean? For moles I put down grub-nematodes and those kill their food source so they leave. If you want fewer squirrels, more raccoons and more eagles will do the trick - otherwise you have to cut down some trees to get rid of them. Be sure to pick up any nuts dropped by your trees as soon as you can - to reduce the breeding food supply or they just keep having bigger families. It also stops them from burying and digging in the yard as much if they do not have nuts already in your yard to bury and dig. The dog will deter some squirrel activity on the ground of you leave them out in the yard.

Is it true what they say about squirels getting fat early and a hard winter?

Someone was telling me last night that you can tell when its going to be a hard winter when the squirrels start getting fat early in the season.

What you guys think? Is it true what they say about squirels getting fat early and a hard winter?
It's not the size of em guy's and lady's, it's how much they are putting away and hiding. This time of the year they go into their prime coats. Means their hair is getting thicker and they begin to look fatter. Some still have a batch of youngans to feed and until they are winged they want get fat either. Is it true what they say about squirels getting fat early and a hard winter?
    Yep.

If the squirrels are getting fat early and the woolyworms don't have orange bands round them, it's going to be a long, cold winter.

Gonna be an awful winter down here in South Ga, I think. The pecans are producing earlier than they did last year, it's cooler outside (normally flippin hot still this time of the year), the squirrels are hoardin like crazy and I saw some woolyworms without orange bands.
While it's true they fatten up each summer when food is plentiful they also store acorns and other nuts for eating later. I don't think there is much truth to what you have heard. It sounds like an old wives tall to me..sort of like the old woolly worm getting an extra bit of hair in preparation for a worse than normal winter.
Stop and think. All the nuts are ripe and fall from the trees in sept-nov and the little critters eat and eat and eat till they almost bust. They store up for winter also by storing nuts too.....they also steal bird seed from feeders all over as well. If you listen to that......every winter would be bad.....because they do that every year.
i personally dont believe that, but only because the squirrels around here are ALWAYS fat thanks to the massive amount of bird feeders they continuously break into. we havent had a ';hard'; winter in quite a while but my dogs STILL get the chase pudgy squirrels.
That's a common old wives tale, but you know. Back when we had record highs a couple of years ago in Dec...the squirrels got real fat, real fast early on, and stayed that way. So much for that saying.
BS, squirrels don't know a hard winter coming from a hard cast .22 coming.
    * Yes really it is.*~~

How do you stop the squirels from eating the fruit from your trees?

Get a very large, very mean cat that loves the taste of squirrelHow do you stop the squirels from eating the fruit from your trees?
The only way I've found is a pellet gun/22 and shoot them, otherwise you won't win that battle. I've been fighting them for 4 years from eating my figs and pecans and last year they stripped the pecan trees bare! I know I'll get a lot of thumbs down, cause the animal lovers will say feed them or transplant the squirrels to another area, but that won't work. If you feed them, more will show up, that's been proven, if you relocate, more others will move in and we're overpopulated already. (Let me say this in advance, If you want to buy me pecans and brown turkey figs, be my guest, otherwise, shut your pie holes about shooting them) :) I am done.......TY!How do you stop the squirels from eating the fruit from your trees?
You can't. those little bastards are sneaky and will find a way.

What are some good things to use to repell ground squirels, bunnies, bugs and deer in my flower beds?

A .30-06 works pretty good. What are some good things to use to repell ground squirels, bunnies, bugs and deer in my flower beds?
okay, for the little rodents---usually a healthy dose of cayenne pepper around the perimeter will do it and not affect anything. Also, you can bury a semi smushed bulb of garlic next to your roses and keep it pest free.

For the deer, it's gross, but it works (trust me, i live in maine, i have deer TRAILS through my front yard)---Get your boyfriend or husband or someone to urinate around the garden. Deer and other critters will naturally avoid human

urine. It wont make your flowers smell like pee so dont worry--and, a little goes a long way, its not like he's gotta head outside everytime he needs to go, maybe once a week or so. Good luck!!!What are some good things to use to repell ground squirels, bunnies, bugs and deer in my flower beds?
12ga shot gun or call your local zoo about tiger pee it will scare away animals.
use moth balls or some human hair from your local beauty shoppe works for me
Naw, those things will kill and you wanted to repel. A BB gun works great but only the spring propelled one. Don't use an air BB gun.
If you wanna go organic plant flowering tobacco it is poisonous and therefore a repellant for ants plant cucumbers
spread cayenne pepper on the ground. Mix some with vasaline and spread ti on the foliage. It will burn their noses and mouths.

How do I keep squirels from eating my flowers?

This is driving me insane! PLZ help! I will give yoou 10 points if I can!!How do I keep squirels from eating my flowers?
have you tried Cayenne pepper? Or a Garlic spray? If all else fells maybe put out some feeders or throw bird seed out for them and maybe it will take the focus off your flowers. You could always buy some of that mesh bird and small animal netting, and drape it over your flowers. You can only see the netting if your real close. It 's real thin. Good luck!!!!!How do I keep squirels from eating my flowers?
    Get a gun.
I Put out food for them, and they leave my plants alone, you can get food for them at walmart.
    Call the city or DNR.
Spread moth balls around the flower bed they will detour all animals from the area.
The thing my parents have done for years is mix up a spray bottle full of 3 parts hot sauce (the hotter the better) and one part water then spray down the flowers. The spray won't hurt the plants and will keep everything off of them, from squirrels to deer to insects. You just have to remember to reapply it after it rains.
Liquid Fence Repellant - available at most nurseries. Call them %26amp; ask where your nearest retailer is. Good luck!

  • What are the best pellets for shooting squirels?

I have a Benjamin Super Streak .22 Cal, with regular lead pellets i think it goes about 850 FPS

so should i use hollow point, blunt, pointed? What are the best pellets for shooting squirels?
You should always use the pellet your rifle prefers(accuracy), and the only way to know for sure is to experiment with high quality pellets.

    Pellet sampler

    http://www.straightshooters.com/straight鈥?/a>

';Generally'; speaking domed pellets are the best for small game(rabbit, squirrel, etc) since they hit harder and penetrate better than any other shape.

Two of the best .22 caliber small game hunting pellets are the Crosman Premier Domed(14.3gr) and the RWS Superdome(14.5gr)

Wadcutters are the best choice for pest birds since they deliver their energy without over penetrating

If you want to try a hollowpoint, I recommend the Beeman Crow-Magnum(18.2gr). They might be on the heavy side for your rifle, you would just have to try them and see how they perform.

    %26gt;%26gt;850fps%26lt;%26lt;

That's very realistic. You should be somewhere around 825fps to 850fps with 14.0gr to 14.5gr pellets. What are the best pellets for shooting squirels?
preferrably not pointed, although accurate their expansion is very poor. Blunt is alright, but hollow is best. Anything round or pointed is most accurate, but it should not be just this, for a .177 cal i like the gamo rockets with the copper head, these are fantastic as are the gamo (i think its called flex tip) ones with the red plastic pointed head that breaks off upon entry to expose the wadcutter style flat nose of the lead part of the pellet. hope this helps
I agree with C_F_45. With airguns, accuracy is more important than the minor differences in terminal performance that different types of pellets may deliver. That's because with an airgun you don't have the over-kill factor that a rimfire rifle would deliver. So if your gun shoots wadcutters best, then use wadcutters. If it shoots round nosed pellets best, shoot round nosed pellets. And the only real way to find out what pellet your gun shoots best is to sample a bunch of different pellets and see how they perform at the ranges you plan on hunting at.
The Raptor .22 cal Performance Ballistic Alloy, it's the first non-lead Alloy Airgun Ammunition and increases velocity up to 25% over lead.

And the plus factor is that you won't be dumping lead out there--which I'm sure you know [as all good hunters should] is not a good thing.
raptor has pellets that will actually increase the speed of the pellet.....get the hollow points.....ouch will kill almost on contact...lol...good luck and happy hunting.......to all of u animal rights activist out there.....if u hate hunting soo much stay out of the hunting section or keep ur mouths shut!....no one here wants to read what u morons have to say.
I would use pointed, domed or wad cutter. Since the wad cutter has a flat head, it will shock the animal and cause damage. But pointed provides good penetration so its really your choice
Hunting ones like the hollow point or Pointed. Try for a clean head shot.

This question sure brought out the PETA people.
    Hollow!!!
Rabbit pellets, please don't kill the poor little things [sob!]
LEAVE THE POOR SQUIRRELS ALONE! Bless them.
How about you don't shoot the squirel?
    no kind of pellets
